So, I've had some foot pain for a while. I will give you the Cliff Notes on it. It started hurting while we were in Korea. It really hurt mostly when I first stepped out of bed or if I had been sitting for a period of time. I figured that I wouldn't go to our little clinic, because I would probably get referred to the big Army hospital in Seoul and I just didn't want to do that. Since we were moving soon, I thought that I would just wait until be got back to America.
So, we are back in America, things are beginning to get settled. In September, my foot hurt ALL of the time. Throbbing pain. So, I made the appointment. My primary doc said, "I will just put in a referral to a podiatrist." I'm thinkin', "cool." Let's cut through the red tape and move this along!
So, I go see the doc, who is a little cocky and didn't make a super impression, because he brought up a sensitive subject with me and I would say with ALL women. A number that we just don't discuss, and it is not our age! For most of us, it is a 3-digit number! I hated him right away...and I am sure you hate him too. I mean, really, he is a foot doctor. He just needed to stay in his lane! I'm sorry; I got off track.........First appointment. He did an ultrasound, which showed a heel spur and
Plantar Fascitis . Ouch, right?! Yes, OUCH!! He told me I needed to stretch before I get out of bed and some during the day, plus take Motrin and ice the foot. Oh, I also have to wear a brace to bed to keep the foot flexed. Then I went to the brace clinic to get some inserts for my shoes. If that didn't work, then he could give me a steriod SHOT in my heel, then if that didn't work, they would do surgery. I'm thinking the night brace will probably work!
It has been three months. I've gotten better, but recently the pain has come back, although not as intense as in the beginning. So, the nurse/aide began talking about the steriod shot. "Exsqueeze me?! Uh, shot?" I'm not afraid of needles, prefer not to have them, but I can do it if necessary, but a needle in MY FOOT???? I have some meat every where else, not my heel! No meat there! So, the nurse/aide leaves and says, "You can think about it until the doctor comes in." "What is there to think about?" So, I wait. Then the doc comes in and says, "so, are you ready?" ummmmm, "For what?" "I said that if the home treatments were not working that the next option would be a steriod shot." I'm thinkin', "now I really hate you!"
Let me just say, it wasn't the needle that was so painful being jabbed into the side of what little meat I had on my heel. After all, he did use some of that freezing spray, whimpy shit! The hot freakin' lava being injected into my heel is what caused my head to almost explode. He stuck that needle in my heel and I took a deep breath in and exhaled like there was no tomorrow people! It was lava injection then the flaming feeling, like my foot had ignited. All I could do was breath and I remember asking him, "Are you finished?!" "Almost." Once my vision cleared and I could hear and see again, my foot hurt. It took a couple of minutes for the paid to mellow. I asked him, "Did I curse, because I don't remember what I said." He said, "You did really well." Translation, I didn't kick him! They told me to ice it extra............no problem!
I came home, got the kids settled with homework and I sat down with Oprah and my ice and my "Do Not Disturb" sign! I sure hope this works. I'm tired!
