Personal Trainer - Part 2

You never really know just how out of shape you are until someone is standing over you making you do things that you would NEVER do on your own. WOW! Painful, yet very empowering. I felt much better after it was over! And I was reminded of our appointment for a few days after.

So, I do my 15 minute warm up, just some walking on the treadmill, then the fun begins. Nothing major at first, just some dumbbells while sitting on one of those large balls. Then she sets up a step. Okay, so I've done step before, no big deal. Normally you use no more than two risers, unless you are really tall. She put FOUR risers under the step. I'm thinkin' to myself that this is NOT going to turn out good.

So, I am holding a dumbell horizontal to the floor, feet shoulder width apart and standing close to the step, but with my backside to it. The trainer said, "now, sit down and while you are sitting straighten out your arms and raise the dumbbell." Here's me: "uhhhhhh, okay. I might curse you in a minute, but don't take it too personal." Yeah, wow. That one really didn't hurt until later that night, although it worked multiple muscles at once. Holding out the dumbbell forced me to hold in the abs to balance while sitting. WOW!

THEN..................remember the FOUR risers. I only thought that I was going to sit on them. There I stood.........facing the step and the trainer. She says, "I want you to step up with one leg and only bring the other leg up to touch your toe." Basically a major balancing act! I couldn't do it without using her hands as a crutch! It was hard. We then went out to some machines and worked the upper back and shoulders.

........Wake up to Friday morning...........let us imagine Jell-O...................now imagine that Jell-O walking! It was like my muscles had no control, they were so sore and it lasted a good three days! And to think, people pay for that kind of pain! (well, I just might be one of those paying people. We will see!)

Good for you! I know how empowered you feel afterwards, drink lots of water after a workout to release the lactic acid build up that makes the muscles sore and ask your trainer about a protein shake (I like Muscle Milk, it depends in your caloric intake needs) it also helps to speed up muscle healing and strength. She will know which one will work out best for your goals. You Go Girl!!!
