Ghoulish Good Night!

The night began with a smiling silly pumpkin pepperoni pizza!

It was a ghoulish good night in the neighborhood as we began our trek through the suburbs of Central Texas with a cheerleader and a faceless goblin in tow!

Who was the masked man???

Ryan to the far left with his frightful friends!

The HAUL! Since my little man doesn't like chocolate, mommy benefits from the walk! But do I really NEED the chocolate? (yes, sometimes I really do!)

New Quilt

I know! I know! How can I be thinking about another new quilt if I haven't even finished the one that I am working on now! Well, because this one is for my first quilt class. I planned it over a month ago, so it doesn't count! Also, I think that creative people are always thinking about the next project, it is just how are brains are wired!

AND, I didn't have to buy ANY new fabric. I had all of this in my stash! So, the class is on making an American Flag. It was supposed to be the Texas flag, so I don't know what happened, but I have the pattern for both. I'll let you know!

But I love the colors and I think that it will turn out FABULOUS!

A Day...........PHEW!

So, yesterday was just a normal day with normal stuff. Nothing crazy. Did some things around the house and was going to pick Sarah up for her dermatology appointment at 10:00. Picked her up, drove to the appointment and waited. Normal.

We get into the office and see the doc and we begin talking about progress with current medications and what the next steps are. We are working on getting control of childhood acne. Which is normal!

Anyway, a few months ago I notice a new mole on Sarah's back. Normal, we get moles, but this one looked a little darker and not as smooth. So, I watched it. Since we were at the dermatologist's office, I had him look at it. This is where my day changes!

Doc: "Oh. I don't like the way that looks."
Me: Rush of panic and nausea run through my body. Trying not to look alarmed, so Sarah doesn't get panicked.
Doc: "I'll be right back. I need to get my magnifying glass."
Me: "Sarah, don't worry, the doctor just wants to look at it better."
Doc: "This takes priority OVER everything."
Me: Another rush of panic.
Doc: Explains the difference between the 3 levels of moles and how they are treated and removed. First, small scrape of the mole. Second, about a 2" eye-shaped area removed. Third, about a 5" eye-shaped area removed!

Okay, so the doctor measures and takes some photos of the mole. Injects lidocaine, a lot of lidocaine. Sarah was a trooper, because she hates needles. But once you get past the initial burning of the lidocaine, it is over. So, we wait for about 10 days and find out why type of mole and the degree of ickiness it is and we will move on from there.

So, Sarah says after we leave the doctor's office, "So, I think that I deserve a Starbucks." My nerves still weren't totally calm and I was continuing to breathe deeply. I said, "I think you deserve lunch!" So I took my baby to lunch and then back to school.

I came home and tried to relax. I'm sure that everything will be just fine, but when things like this happen to your baby and she is only 11, the event is always magnified.

PHEW! It was a day!

I did enjoy a nice Dawn Sized glass of wine later that night!

Jesse!!!

This post is very late, because it took place over the summer, but I still wanted to post it. I found out that Jesse McCartney was going to do a free show at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. I went back and forth on this, because I KNEW there would be MANY screaming girls all wanting to see Jesse. He's a cute kid, I can see why.

So, because I am the BEST mommy in the whole world, I told Sarah and Ryan that we would go to Six Flags and Jesse McCartney was doing a show that day. Insert **screaming, giggling, laughing**!! I also told Sarah that she could invite her two BFF's to this event. Poor Ryan would be totally outnumbered!

We got to Six Flags before the gates opened and the girls in line were already beginning to plan their attack on getting their ticket for the show. The gates opened and the rush to the Jesse tickets was in full swing. You really have to go a long way into the park for these free tickets! Anyway, once we secured the tickets, we were able to enjoy the park at our leisure.

The kids have been to 4th of July concerts with country stars and there were two country stars that came to Korea and did free shows, but this was probably the first REAL concert, because it was someone that they wanted to see. They girls were very excited. Ryan, however, was not as excited. There were a lot of screaming girls around!

HERE HE IS! He is a cutie!

I have to admit, I did know some of the songs!
He was looking and smiling at us!

The Promotion

So, as my hubby would say, "The Army, in it's infinite wisdom, has decided to promote me." YEAH! On October 1st Glenn was promoted to LTC, one of those milestones that just leaves a smile on your face for a while.

All previous promotions, I have been there next to Glenn while he stood proud during the reading of the order to promote. This year was a little different. Since Glenn in in Iraq, me being by his side was a little difficult, so we did the next best thing. A video teleconference! Not only was I there, but Glenn's mom in New Jersey was also on VTC! Modern technology is awesome! It wasn't the same as being right there, but it made him being away a little easier.

CONGRATULATIONS GLENN!

THE Quilt

So, a new Moda line came out that I fell in love with and just HAD to have it. While in Korea, where fabric was basically free, I didn't need a plan when I bought multiple yardages. It was $2/yard! No plan needed. Well, now that we are back in America, anyone who sews or quilts knows how much Moda fabric is. Enough said. My friend suggested that I pick out a pattern and come in with a plan, so I don't buy too much (if that is possible). I agreed. Found a pattern that I've been wanting to do. This particular pattern book had measurements for lap, twin, and queen. Choices!

Since my husband is tall, I decided to go with the queen size, so his tootsies would be covered up on the couch. This is a very easy pattern! It consists of 5" squares and 2 1/2" squares plus any border. Easy! Yeah..............it is easy, however, the queen size requires MANY squares! It requires 441 - 5" squares and 882 - 2 1/2" squares. I got them all cut out in 1 1/2 days, with a few interruptions, of course.

So, here is was 882 - 2 1/2" squares look like.

And here is 441 - 2 1/2" squares.
I love the color palette and I will give some sneak peaks of my progress. Yesterday I was able to assemble 124 blocks, and actually those blocks only took the afternoon, because I was on the phone a lot yesterday! The quilt requires 441 blocks to be finished!
More to follow....................
