So Proud!

First of all, moving is difficult and each move presents itself with many different challenges. This move in particular has been the most stressful! So, because of all of the chaos I was a little worried and nervous about the kids starting a new school.

We arrived in the neighborhood just two weeks before school started. And we never saw anyone out, so there really wasn't the opportunity to make friends. Anyway, military kids are resilient! They are very well adjusted and accept change fairly easy. I knew this in the back of my mind, but I was still worried. Every time the kids start a new school I look back and remember all of my first days at a new school when my dad was in the Army. I was a little shy and quiet and it took me alittle while to make friends.

Earlier this week, my oldest mentioned that the school was holding elections for class representatives for student council and that she was interested. I asked her what she thought student council was and we discussed it a little. I told her that if it was something that she was interested in, then she should "Go for it!" and that I would help her in any way that she needed. She had to answer a few questions as to why she would make a good 5th grade rep. She never asked for help answering the questions, even though I asked her if she wanted some help. There were 5 or 6 kids running and each class would have 2 reps. She kept saying "I won't win." I just said, you know, you might not win, but one important thing is that you are trying and that is most important. And you never know, you just might win."

Well, today, my oldest is spreading her wings and flying high! She was voted, along with another classmate to be the class rep for student council! I was so proud of her!!! We high fived it in the parking lot and there was lots of hugs and kisses. You could tell that she was very happy and proud of herself!

This school is going to be great for my kids! Go hug your kids!

Oh she won! That's wonderful. Did she make "Vote for {the oldest}" Campaign buttons? Or will she be saving that for High School Senior class president? ~jen~
