The Derby!

If you were ever a Boy Scout or had/have a Boy Scout you know about the Pinewood Derby. It is a huge deal with months of preparations. If you are now familiar with the Pinewood Derby, then here is a quick rundown. Take a rectangular piece of wood, shape into a car, add paint and decorations, some wheels and make sure is weighs approximately 5 oz. Then race everyone in the Pack, which take hours by the way!

So, it is Pinewood Derby Day and there is much excitement in the air! The smell of hot dogs cooking, just baked brownies and other goodies. All of the boys patiently wait their turn. Here is Ryan watching another race.

Here is part of our Den. They were watching the race. This is pretty high tech. Random racing, computerized, photo finish. Very big deal for a lot of the dads!

Here is Ryan and his buddy!

I thought that this was AWESOME! This is mom with her computer, who is also a teacher at the school with her son. Dad is deployed, so mom was online chatting with him and had the webcam going. He was able to watch the Pinewood Derby and talk to his son from 8,000 miles away! So cool! I'm sure it made her son's day.....and dad's!

She is at the finish line and has the computer facing the track, so dad can watch the race. Just cool thinking!

Big sister was a very big help. She helped make neckerchiefs for the boys.

Ryan's car is 3rd from the right. They race 4 times and average the score.

His is the blue one, 3rd from the right.

Very close finish!

Big Man came in third place in this race. He was a little disappointed.

Photo op with his car after the race. He was bummed that his car wasn't faster. Next year, we will work on speed! He still had a great time!

Great work Ry. I cannot believe how high-tech it has become since my little brother's derby, many moons ago. WOW
